about

Second U-TRAX compilation unveils its hidden ties with Legowelt.

Hot on the heels of R U There Yet? U-TRAX 20/20 Vision mixtape vol. 1, compiled by Qmoog, electronic music label U-TRAX invited popular Dutch producer Legowelt, aka Danny Wolfers, to curate a second compilation album.
Wolfers and U-TRAX label boss DJ White Delight met each other for the first time by chance at the doorsteps of record store Rush Hour during ADE 2018. Being a big fan of epic Legowelt tracks like Flight of the Jupiter, White Delight spoke to Wolfers for over one hour before discovering he was the producer Legowelt. During that hour, Wolfers had already testified of his special ties with U-TRAX.
As a highschool kid, some of the first records Wolfers ever bought (at I.F.’s legendary The Hague Hotmix recordstore) somewhere in the mid 90s, were U-TRAX releases. He was very inspired by releases of The Connection Machine and P.A. Presents and when he started to make his own music, the first Legowelt demo he ever sent out was addressed to U-TRAX. Due to a twist of fate, that tape ended up at someone else’s mailbox and U-TRAX never got to learn about the genius of Wolfers before going into a 21 year hibernation in 1997.

Fast forward to 2021 and Legowelt and U-TRAX finally join forces, with Wolfers picking some of his all-time favorites from the U-TRAX and (U-TRAX sordid and rash sublabel) Phoq U Phonogrammen archives, as well as taking a peek at future U-TRAX releases. He not only selected the 14 tracks, but also wrote very personal notes for each track and created artwork in his characteristic style. His drawing depicts some Utrecht landmarks, like the Dom tower (as featured in the U-TRAX logo) and the city’s unique canals.

The compilation brings a wide range of electronic music, from smooth ambient techno to hard electro, and spicing things up further with acid, techno and hip hop flavours. It features nine tracks from the 90s archives of U-TRAX and Phoq U Phonogrammen, by techno favorites like The Connection Machine, Tick Trax, P.A. Presents and Sonar Base and one track by Sp@sms from 2019. This selection of classics is completed by four brand new tracks from forthcoming U-TRAX albums by artists like hip-hop producer Thavius Beck (NYC), old school electro producer Nuklear Prophet (LA) and new school electro producer w1b0 (NL).

All tracks received a fresh new mastering treatment by Thee J Johanz of Bally Hoo Studios for this release.
